This year’s final at Wimbledon was a milestone in the history of the sport. For the 1st time in the past 8 years, Roger Federer, the Swiss Maestro, was not present on the court.
Rafael Nadal was instead playing Thomas Berdych and Nadal won his second All-England title in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4. The first time Nadal won Wimbledon was back in 2008 against Federer in a 5-set 4 hour-48 minutes rain interrupted game. This time it was much easier.
Nadal said he was happy to be back in favorite tournament and holding the trophy is like a dream. Winning the French Open – Wimbledon double slams in the same year is pretty difficult and Nadal is now standing there at the top of the men’s tennis world with both trophies at his hands. So, what is next? After he gets his gets his treatment for his knees, he will be headed to New York for the final grand slam of the year, the US open. Federer won the US Open for 5 times and Nadal has yet to win it once. Now that he is back in #1 spot, can Rafa win the US Open and complete an almost perfect season?
Nadal’s game improved a lot although he has been fighting injuries over the past year. He attacks more now and his serve is also much better. Nadal stands a real chance of winning the US open this year.
